Prunus salicina x 'Beauty'

Beauty is one of the richest-flavored Japanese plums; a wonderful blend of sweet and tart that melts in your mouth. The tree is fast growing and extremely productive, bearing bright red, medium-sized fruit with amber-streaked, red flesh. This was one of developer Luther Burbank's favorites of his plum varieties, and was introduced in 1911.

The fruit is reminiscent of Santa Rosa, but much better suited to cool weather growers. Beauty starts producing at an early age, sometimes the year after planting! Self fertile in most regions, and a good pollinizer for other Asian plums. Low chill; only needing 250 hours to reliably set fruit.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hello - will Beauty Asian Plum pollinate Flavor Supreme Pluot, Dapple Dandy Pluot, Candy Heart Pluerry, and Flavor Punch Pluerry?

Yes, it USUALLY does the job, but depending on your climate you may find Santa Rosa is better.

  • Will Beauty plum pollinate pluerrys and plouts that require Santa Rosa? I am interested in knowing if it will pollinate; Candy Heart pluerry, Flavor Punch pluerry, Flavor Supreme plout, and Dandy Dapple plout. Thanks!

Yes, in most areas Beauty is capable of providing cross pollination for pluots and pluerry trees.

  • Hi my friend last two years bought a beauty plum tree in your nursery, I want to know it is the same as beauty Asian plum? Thanks

    Yes they are the same.

Lookin’good

The bare root tree arrived in great condition. Lots of buds and nothing broken. I plant bare root trees in a large pot the first year, then bury the pot in the location the tree will go. I find it easier to control water and nutrients that way. Next dormant season it goes in the hole where it lived in the pot. Works good for me.

Was carefully packaged and delivered. Tree is already covered in leaves and it's only been a month since planting. Can't wait for the harvest!

So far so good…

I just got the tree last week and planted it in a pot. It’s still in dormancy, but the trunk was so much thicker than I anticipated, and the bare branches look big and sturdy. I was actually shocked at how big and mature it looked. I ordered another plum tree from another company last year (paid more, too!), and the trunk on that one was a little whip. I’m excited to see how the tree does.

One of the best asian plums

Ive had Shiros- incredibly prolific, very juicy in fact mostly juice, sweet with a sour skin. Beauty on the other hand is more meaty and has a much more intense flavor with a slighlty tart skin- it also bears alot of fruit. I often make plum salad. Sliced beauty plums, white balsamic vinegar, thinly sliced parmesan on top with some cracked black pepper- Its great! Sounds weird? They are excellent right off the tree

My best fruit tree so far

Over the past two years, we have added 16 fruit trees to our property. Our Beauty Plum is by far the largest, healthiest tree we have planted. It is already about ten feet tall and it is loaded with baby plums this spring, just two years after planting. It looks so good that we are adding several more plum trees to our small family orchard this year. This was a great first plum tree to plant and is definitely an early producer. It has been fun to watch this tree grow.
