Cydonia oblonga 'Ekmek'

A great choice for culinary uses, medium-size Ekmek (which means "bread" in Turkish) is the most popular quince in Western Turkey and new to American gardeners. Some sources even claim Ekmek can be eaten fresh off the tree! This cultivar has regularly produced large crops of juicy, yellow, pear-shaped fruit with creamy, yellow flesh at Raintree in the Pacific Northwest. Ekmek is self-fertile, disease resistant, cold hardy, and ripens in late summer. A must have for your garden - wherever you are!

At the turn of the 20th century almost every rural family had a fruiting quince tree they relied on for medicine, pectin, and fragrant, long-lasting fruits. The varieties we offer have delightful pineapple-like flavors. They are prized for cooking, jelly making, and adding to apple cider. Quince trees are self fertile and showy, with big white blossoms in late spring and unusual, fuzzy yellow fruits in fall.

  • I live in Forney, Texas. What varieties grow well in East Texas, zone 8a?

    Most edible quinces thrive in Texas if given enough water during the early years to establish.

  • How long will my Quince take to spout? Has been in the ground for a week and no action.

    Dormant trees can take up to 4-6 weeks to leaf out after being kept in cold storage. If your tree fails to leaf out by then please contact us before August 1st to make a claim. Refer to our shipping policies page for more information on our Arrive Alive guarantee.

  • which Quince tree tolerates hot summer in AZ (zone 9)?

    Yes. They may need some water, but they love the heat.

  • How big are the trees when shipped?

    These trees are 4'-5' tall when shipped

  • How resistant is this to seattles usually wet summers?

    Seattle summers are typically dry so there is no danger of fireblight or other common wet summer diseases. Quince is easy to grow in Western WA.

My tree never came out of dormancy

I bought it last year and planted on receipt. It never came out of dormancy and ended up being a wasted investment.

Ekmek Quince

My Quince arrived last week put it in the the next day. the tree arrived in good shape. The trunk is an inch and a half in diameter no spouts yet hoping soon.

I received a healthy Ekmek Ayva( Quince ). I am originally from Turkiye so excited to receive this type of Quince. This is the best kind for fresh eating since I have this in my orchard in Turkiye will be nice to have it in my backyard in USA as well.

My quince arrived in great shape and I was able to get it in the ground but I appreciate the video you shared about ways to store until you can plant

Received dried tree

The tree was dried after 6 hot days travel with ups. But I still think it might be worth it to have it a chance. So I planted it as directed. Unfortunately, after 4 months, it was not able to recover back.

We do have a policy that covers any plant that has been delayed during shipping and arrives in poor condition. In the future, please reach out to us right away and we will help resolve the problem, and send you a new plant if needed.
