Pyrus communis 'Ubileen'

Start the season off right with Ubileen! A large, sweet, aromatic, pear from Bulgaria, with yellow skin and a pretty red blush when fully mature. The flavorful flesh is fine textured and buttery. It is harvested in early August and top rated among thousands of pears from around the world at the USDA national pear Germplasm Repository in Corvallis, Oregon.

Ubileen is both a very early bloomer (bloom category 1), and one of the first pears to ripen each season. Early testing appears to show good resistance to fireblight.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I've heard Ubileen is early-blooming and could pollinate an Asian pear. Is this true?

That depends on your regional conditions, including variables that can change year to year. It is possible that some late blooming Asian pears and some early blooming European pears may over lap, and that thier pollen is compatible, but we won't guarantee any European variety will cross pollinate with any Asian variety.

  • Is Ubileen resistant to fireblight?

Ubileen, according to University of Wisconsin, appears to be fireblight resistant in their trials. There is not a lot of testing done on heritage variaties like this, so your mileage may vary, but chances are good.

  • Do Orcas and Ubileen pollinate well?

    Yes they do!

  • Will the Ubileen and Orcas pears pollinate each other?

    Yes they will

  • Will Ubileen and Comice pollinate each other?

No, they are too far apart in bloom time. Check out our European Pear Growing Guide for a full pollination chart!

  • How well does the Ubileen pear store?

Ubileen stores and travels very well for a summer pear!

  • Hello Raintree!! Would you, by any chance, have any Ubileen on OHxF97 roots? (I'm trying to match the size of my Shin Li on Calleryana roots. 15-20ft) Thanks in advance!

Good question! Not currently. We do offer the rootstock however.

quality tree from raintree

Ubileen a very productive pear great for canning but don't let it stay on the tree too long. Grew well on the Oregon coast.

Year 4 and it really produced!

Low maintenance approach resulted in deer nibbles and long dry Seattle area summers without any extra watering to speak of. This year we got about 10 nice sized, beautiful pears with amazing texture and absolute gourmet aroma. Having to think real hard about who to share them with, because I want em all to myself!
