Vaccinium vitis-idaea var minus 'Ida'

Ida sports very large, flavorful berries and produces TWO crops a year, one in mid summer and again in the late fall, if temps are over the mid-50's during the first bloom in Feb-Mar. It is a vigorous growing, compact bush to only 8 inches tall, and starts producing its best yields after 2 years of establishment.  Scandinavians love these fantastic edible evergreen ground covers that produce delicious cranberry-like berries great for sauces, jellies and cooking. They are attractive, easy-to-grow in your garden, with bright red fruits the size of a small blueberry. Lingonberries are very high in antioxidants.

They grow well in cooler parts of the U.S. Select one Red Pearl as a pollinizer for every 10 productive plants for best yields. These beautiful and productive groundcover plants are under-utilized and a must for American gardeners. They are also great grown in a pot, when roots are protected by draping foliage or shaded by another pot. Hardy to USDA Zone 2!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How many chill hours does the IDA variety need? Will it fruit in zone 9b? Thank you!

    880+ chilling hours

  • What is the warmest summer temperature these plants can tolerate? I live in a high desert climate and wasn’t sure if these would survive in my norther exposure microclimate.

Lingonberries tolerate summer temperatures up to 90 degrees, after which they don't do as well, but can be helped along with afternoon shade and supplemental water.

  • What is the spread of the different varieties? The descriptions show heights but, many are lacking the spread. Thanks

Lingonberries are pretty much big balls at maturity, about as was as they are tall.

Healthy plants and good prices and good growing instructions

I purchased the plant November, 2021 and follow the growing instructions, now it’s flowering. I am so happy that their plants are so healthy and they have good growing instructions. I spent lots money before and didn’t know the proper way of caring it, end up killing it. I am glad I found them, now I can’t wait to pick the fruits I grow!
