Prunus serrulata 'Kwanzan'

Kwanzan Flowering cherry always gets attention when it is in bloom here at Raintree! Double pink flowers cover this tidy tree in mid spring. The form is like an inverted cone, growing to about 10' on this rootstock. Foliage emerges reddish in spring, turns green for the summer, and becomes yellow with orange and red in the fall.

For full or partial sun and well-drained soils. Does not produce pollen or nectar; cannot be used as a pollenizer for other cherry trees. Best planted where springs are not warm and humid.

Gorgeous, hardy trees.

Kwanzan trees are like the very best crabapples; they are spectacular as stand-alone specimens, but are low-maintenance and hardy enough that you can use them to fill empty space in larger properties, as I am increasingly doing. If possible, plant it next to or in front of a white blossomed apple for a contrast of pink and white.

Something pretty for a burn scar.

Our home survived the Camp Fire but most of the trees in our neighborhood did not. There are Kwansa cherry trees in a nearby cemetery that we visit each year during the bloom. We hope this tree will become as beautiful some day. The bare root sapling arrived in good condition in early May. We have planted it in our back yard and it is starting to leaf out. If it survives the summer, we should be successful getting the beautiful tree established in our landscape. So far, so good.

Arrived perfectly intact and healthy looking.

Though I have not planted it in my garden yet, I'm wondering if I can plant it into a container until the fall, at which time I will transfer it to the ground. The planting instructions, which I printed from your website, are thoughtfully helpful!
