Rubus fruticosus 'Arapaho'

Arapaho is a great thornless blackberry - with tall, erect canes that drip with extra-sweet blackberries and exceptionally small seeds. The Arapaho blackberry plant is an early ripening variety that produces medium to large-sized blackberries early to mid-summer over a period over four weeks!

The thornless and upright nature of these plants, coupled with plump berries that have small seeds, make this an excellent choice for backyard gardens and parents with curious kids. Wonderful when picked fresh, they are also ideal for freezing and baking.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Do these Arapaho blackberries sucker out and become invasive?

No, they are not naturalized and do not spread via seed. If you allow the tips to touch the ground they will root and make another plant, but if you trellis them as reccomended they will not spread.

  • Do thornless blackberries need full sun?

Very much so to develop all that sugar.

Nearly perfect!

I've grown these berries for over 5 years now and love their hardiness, the huge sweet fruit, and no thorns! I've had the most success retaining just 4 of the thick upright canes spaced about 3' apart in two rows, and training the strongest fruiting arms onto horizontal wires. It helps to thin the lateral canes early to avoid crowding.
