Erntesegen Lingonberry
Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Erntesegen'
Erntesegen is one of the most productive European cultivars. It produces both a summer and fall crop of highly flavored sweet/tart large berries on the abundant branch tips. Pronounced "ern-ta-saw-gun", it means "blessed harvest" in Austrian!
The vigorous plant with dark green leaves grows 12 to 15 inches tall and will spread from the roots to form a large clump. Select one Red Pearl as a pollinizer for every 10 productive plants. Lingonberries are very high in antioxidants. It is hardy to USDA Zones 4 and thrives in the Pacific Northwest and throughout most of the cooler parts of the nation.
