Marigoule Grafted Chestnut
Castanea sativa x crenata 'Marigoule'
Prohibited to AZ
Marigoule is blight and root rot resistant, and successfully grown in both Michigan and New York as well as the Pacific Northwest. It reliably produces a yearly abundance of easy-to-peel, good size nuts that are as sweet as candy. Although it eventually gets to be a large upright tree with good timber form, it is relatively slow growing. It is a European x Japanese hybrid from France and an excellent pollinizer for other varieties. Nut fall is mid season and they fall in the bur, which can deter losses due to squirrels. Nut size is medium to large.
