Hericium erinaceus

A beautiful, large, and showy mushroom. This tasty treat is found in the late summer and fall on hardwood stumps and logs throughout much of the US. Oak, walnut and beech are favorites but it will grow well on many types of hardwoods. Lion's Mane is a medicinal mushroom and is said to improve cognitive ability. Package of 100 dowels; we recommend using a 5/16" drill bit set at 1" depth to drill holes for the dowels.

  • On average, how many lines made mushrooms do you get with those hundred dowels?

    The dowels are used to innoculate a substrate and do not have a set number of fruits they produce. The size, type, and quality of the substrate, in addition to how well your colony is cared for, has a large impact on how many mushrooms will be produced.

  • Do you have to use all the dowels right away or can you store them somehow to use over time?

    You can store them for a period of time in your fridge, but no more than 6-8 months.

  • how long do these take to fruit?

    Lion's Mane is tricky and can take several years to fruit even when innoculation is successful.
