North American gardeners can now enjoy a quince with a pineapple-like flavor that is sweet enough to eat fresh. The medium size “aromatic” fruit is among the best of thousands of varieties from the Black Sea region of Russia and Turkey. The disease resistant tree produces round, yellow fruit, which ripens in October and needs to be stored on the window until it starts to soften. Like other quinces, the uncooked texture is dense, but it’s nice when thinly sliced and it is excellent for cooking.

At the turn of the 20th century almost every rural family had a fruiting quince tree they relied on for medicine, pectin, and fragrant, long-lasting fruits. The varieties we offer have delightful pineapple-like flavors. They are prized for cooking, jelly making, and adding to apple cider. Quince trees are self fertile and showy, with big white blossoms in late spring and unusual, fuzzy yellow fruits in fall.

  • Can you get quince trees in standard or semi dwarf?

    This rootstock is considered semi dwarf. There are not a significant number of different quince rootstocks available for grafting.

  • Each of your quince varieties all show a height of 4 to 5 feet in the header , but show a grow height of 11 feet in the lower part of the description. Which is correct?

    Our quince are 4'-5' tall when shipped and grow to a mature height of 11'-15' at maturity.

  • How old, big of a tree will I get & how long before it produces fruit?

    Roughly 3 years old and 4'-5' tall. It will produce early, but should be thinned heavily to prevent the roots from exhausting themselves making too much fruit.

Aromatnaya Russian Quince tree -- Excellent!

EXCELLENT! I loved the ordering experience, the advance notice of when the tree would arrive, and especially the videos of all aspects of how best to plant the tree. The tree arrived in excellent condition, I planted it, and it looks healthy! After eating quince everywhere in southern and central Europe, and knowing about it's history in the early American colonies, I've always wanted a quince tree! Highly recommend Raintree Nursery!

We ordered two quince and when they arrived they were unpackaged and kept moist. They were planted within three days and watered regularly. The buds never swelled or produced leaves. We recently took them out as they appeared dead

This is the second quince I ordered from RTN. The first was a Turkish one and leafed out within 2 weeks of planting. The Russian one is, so far, quiet but I have great hopes for it. It arrived nicely snuggled and completely intact. TY RTN.
