Contender Peach Tree - Dwarf
This late blooming bright red over yellow peach escapes spring frosts and sets fruit in much of the nation. The fruit is firm, large, sweet aromatic, and is very delicious. It is great for fresh eating, freezing or canning, since it resists browning and is freestone.
Introduced from the North Carolina Experiment station in 1988, it has a high chilling requirement of 1050 chill hours so its not recommended in the deep south. Ripens 3 weeks after Red Haven. It is very versatile thriving in the east, in Colorado and in Western Washington among other climates. USDA Zones 4-9.
