Prunus domestica 'Stanley'

The Stanley plum is a sweet, richly flavored European prune plum that can be dried without being pitted! The flesh of the Stanley plum is tender, fine, and turns a beautiful purplish red when canned.  Stanley plums are excellent for fresh eating, canning, preserves and drying.

A heavy annual producer once it matures into production age - which can take 5 years or more. Stanley is reliably self-fertile. A good plum selection for humid climates, except where black knot is a known problem.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I'm hoping you can help me. I am looking for a fruit tree (plum, apple, or peach) that is self-fertile/pollinating that will grow in a large pot approx. 33" wide and 29" deep/high. I live on North Camano Island, WA. Will the STANLEY EUROPEAN PLUM be a good choice? If not, will you please recommend a fruit tree (plum, apple, or peach) that will be good for the large planter pot I own? Thank you for your help.

For container growing you will do best with a miniature peach. Nearly all peaches are self-fertile and miniature cultivars can be grown in a half wine barrel for their whole life.

Nice large sizedTree

My Stanly prune-plum arrived with the box in good condition. I got it planted after watching the very helpful videos you recommended. Now I am waiting for new buds to sprout. Hoping for the best! It's still cool here in Oroville, Wa, but the weather is warming.

Grate late ripening plum "Stanley".

Planted in 2018 and the tree is now mature and in full production. Very well crosspollinate with "Seneca" and "Schoolhouse" and sets an abundant crop. Ripens late, in south PA zone 7A first truly ripe fruits starts coming on the second week of September. Plums are sweet and flavorful, so wasps and hornets try to get them part too... Fruits are completely freestone, moderately juicy, so perfect for canning and drying. Beautiful shape of fruits and deep blue color with vax boom, which makes the color look light blue (see photos uploaded). The tree shows significant disease resistance: leaves are healthier than "Seneca's" and fruits are less attacked by Brown Rot (just few). There is little susceptibility to Black Knot, but it is completely absent on some years, so resistance to this disease is strong.

Stanley European Plum, Semi-Dwarf

I could not be more thrilled with the quality of the stock I received. Healthy sized root 'ball', multiple good sized branches, and those branches are starting to leaf out 1 week after planting. Worth every penny.
