Ficus carica 'Violette de Bordeaux'

Also known as Bordeaux and may be Negronne. The very productive tree/bush can produce two crops of purple/black figs with rich, raspberry-colored flesh. Very good in quality with a concentrated texture and deeply sweet flavor. For short-season and cool summer growers, this is the variety to grow for a Mission-style fig experience.

Will produce 2 crops in warm regions. Produces one crop on last years' wood and another on new growth. Very well-suited to growing in pots. Disease and pest resistant. Very similar to Petite Negri but slightly later to ripen.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Does this fig variety rely on fig wasps to pollinated its fruit?

No, this variety does not require fig wasp to make fruit.

  • My fig tree is very healthy but the figs are small and don’t get ripe. I mulched, watered and maybe I need to fertilize? I haven’t needed to fertilize any of my other trees. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fig fruit ripens based on heat. Your location is too cold.

  • What size is the violette de bordeaux fig tree? Bare root?

    18"-24" in a 1 gallon pot

  • The two Violette de Bordeaux figs I bought from Raintree this spring are doing beautifully. I wish I could attach a photo. They have two different leaf shape. Is this a grafted variety? Thanks.

They are all tissue culture propogated so no, not grafted

Perfect little fig trees

I received both trees in perfect condition. I have moved them to larger pots and hopefully they will thrive in their new places. Thanks.

Garden treasure

Finally got a first fruit from this fig, such rich fig flavor & very sweet. The very divided maple like leaves make it an attractive tree outside fruiting periods.
