Malus domestica 'Centennial'

Be prepared for heavy crops of small, sweet, oval-shaped fruit! Use these crispy, juicy, white-fleshed apples for canning, making jelly, or just popping in your mouth! Centennial is a bright orange-red apple that ripens early in the season, and its early-to-midseason bloom time makes it a fantastic pollinator for your home orchard. Centennial is also a great ornamental tree, producing an abundance of striking red buds that open into a showy display of snow white flowers!

Naturally dwarfing, Centennial tops out at 8' making it an easy fit for most locations. Good resistance to scab.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Would Dolgo work as a pollinator for Centennial Crabapple? Thanks! :)

Yes, they should cross pollinate just fine!

  • How resistant is this tree or its rootstock to fire blight?

Centennial, as a crab apple, has some natural resisitance to scab, but not specific resistance to fire blight.

  • What is the size of the tree when shipped and the size of the container?

This is shipped bareroot and is 4'-5' tall at the time of shipping

  • Can this grow in a (big) container in zone 6? To keep the roots out of the sewer line.

For a time yes, with annual pruning. Eventually it will outgrow even a half wine barrel. It's not really a tree that will get into the sewer line though.

  • This crabapple is listed as "semi dwarf", but it says the mature height is 8'??

"Semi dwarf" is a percentage of total vigor, in this case roughly 70%, which for this crabapple is about 8 feet tall. A different tree on the same stock may be up to twice as large, but Centennial just isn't a big tree even on it's own roots.

  • What is the shape/form of the Centennial Crabapple tree? Thank you!

Pretty much the standard form of any other apple tree.

A vole girdled my last centennial crabapple so I ordered a replacement from Raintree. Arrived alive with lots of branches and on time. Thanks

Fun and tasty

Very early ripening, cute and tasty. We ate these right off of the tree-they are very tangy and sweet. Last year's crop made delicious light golden applesauce.
