Malus domestica 'Dolgo'

One of the very best all-purpose crab apples! Dolgo bears large 1-inch, tart, crimson red fruits you can eat raw or make into a ruby-red apple jelly. Dolgo, which means "long" in Russian, describes the shape of the fruit, which is so brightly colored and abundant it looks like a Christmas tree from afar! Dolgo crab apples are scab and mildew resistant, featuring a cascade of white flowers in the orchard every spring. Fresh eaten, Dolgo tastes like a candied cranberry and adds a bitter-sharp flavor to ciders.

The fruit is one of the first to ripen in the apple harvesting season. Great for low chill areas - only needs 400 chill hours to bloom profusely.

  • I live in USDA Zone 9. If I order the Dolgo Crabapple (400 chill hours) what low chill variety should I use as a pollinizer?

Fuji apples are good low chill options, like Beni Shogun.

Great crabapple

I live in Vancouver, WA. This is my second Dolgo. My first was planted three years ago and last year produced enough to make two batches of crabapple jelly. I'm delighted with this crabapple.

Beautiful tree

Tree arrived on time, was packaged well and looks healthy. This is my second purchase from Raintree and I've been very pleased with both transactions.

Planted this spring, harvested about 12-15 fruit this fall. Delicious and tart right off the tree. My kids love them! Super brilliant, red color.
