Castanea crenata/pumila x mollissima 'Szego'
The Szego is a newly-introduced, very complex cross of Chinese and European hybrid chestnuts. Szego produces nuts that are on the large to very large (12-16 per pound) size, and fall free of the bur mid-season (or later in cooler areas). Very good nut quality and dense texture, plus easy peeling, makes it a fine-eating chestnut. This is one of our new favorites. This tree appears to be blight resistant and a good pollen producer for any other chestnut variety.
