Vaccinium x 'Chandler'

Introducing the world's largest Blueberry! Raintree was one of the first nurseries in the Western U.S. offering this amazing new release. It has the longest ripening season of any blueberry, providing more than a month of sweet, firm delicious fruit from the mid into the late season. Durable oval leaves turn an outstanding, decorative red in the fall.

These vigorous, upright bushes grow 5-7 feet tall and provide consistently high yields. A high chill variety from the New Jersey testing program, which needs 1000+ hours to be reliably productive.

USDA Zone: 4-8

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • You are on the west side with a milder climate. Will blueberries grown there do well in eastern Washington's harsher climate? Thanks

Without significant support, no. Northern Highbush Blueberries need wet soils and enjoy a goldilocks zone of no more than 85 degrees during the summer. While they can tolerate higher temperatures for short periods, longer hotter summers are hard on the plants and the fruit.

  • Will the Chandler and Olympia blueberries pollinate each other? I'd like to know what to pick to go with the Olympia (zone 8).

    Yes! Absolutely!

Get ready for big eyes

I added one Chandler to our BBerry patch. It has produced extremely well with all the other pollinators nearby. It even produced a few berries the first year. The large berries really light up the kids faces. They're great eating fresh right off of the bush. They ripen gradually, after starting to show colour. I feed mine every year, prune as needed, and water regularly. Definitely one worth having in your patch.
