QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How old are these that are shipped?

3 years old and 4'-5' tall when shipped

  • What are the chill hours required for this tree and how long before bearing fruit? I'm a Master Gardener in Houston,Texas, but I loved eating them from the trees by the railroad tracks during my childhood in Iowa. I'm giving it a wing either way, but would like to know more. Thanks and I'm eagerly awaiting my tree!

    Roughly 800 chilling hours

  • How tall are the trees at shipping? 2-3ft, 3-4ft, or 4-5ft? Thanks!

These trees are 4'-5' tall at shipping

  • When can the plum tree be planted

We will ship this tree to you when the planting time is right for your zone. Typically early spring through early summer is fine, as long as the daytime temperatures remain below 70 degrees.

  • How old are the trees you are selling?

2-3 years old at the time of shipping

  • Does the Italian prune have any resistance to black knot?

No. The only european plum bred for black knot is President, which we do not currently carry.

  • How wide does the tree with Krymski rootstock grow?

    14-16 feet at maturity.

  • Is the Italian prune, European Plum self pollinating? Is there a specific tree that is recommended as a companion for cross-pollination? Thank you!

It is self fertile and blooms so late there is poor pollination overlap with other plums.

The Start of Our Frui Garden

We decided to start a small fruit garden for our grandkids, and I wanted the Italian Prun which it appeared was not too easy to find. I wanted it to be an established one, so it would be easier to take care of it. I found what I wanted in Raintee nursery.
Although we had to wait for some time for tree to be delivered, we are happy with our purchase. The tree came accurately packed, and what is very important - professionally pruned, so we just had to plant it according to the instructions sent to me via email,
Now we are waiting for it to wake up. There are little buds appearing, so our tree should be fine. We just need to see the leaves to be completely sure.
Thank you, caring guys from Raintree nursery, for the nicely done order and the nice Italian Prune tree which, hopefully, will give us so desired fruits! In a couple of years

Perfect prune tree

Can't wait until the tree wakes up and starts to get leaves. I am from Switzerland where this prune tree is one of the most important trees. The fruit is used mostly for the best quiches ever.

Happy days are here again

When I was a kid, my grandmother had two of these in her backyard. Early every autumn, my brothers and I would gorge ourselves on these fruit and I've been looking for this particular cultivar off and on for years. The tree I ordered in January arrived in March, still dormant. I planted it the day it arrived and it's beginning to come out of dormancy. I was impressed with the size of both the tree and the root system. In a year or two I'll be gorging myself with these plums and I cannot wait. Thank you Raintree!

Beautiful tree

The tree came well packaged along with the other fruit trees I had ordered. There was no sign of damage. I planted it following the instructions provided. Leaves have started to show up within a couple of days of planting.
