Prunus persica 'Garden Delight'

An early Floyd Zaiger triumph! Originally introduced in 1975, this natural genetic dwarf nectarine matures to only 5'-6' tall, but offers loads of large, yellow-fleshed, tasty freestone fruit in late summer, plus the added bonus of loads of dark pink, double blossoms in early spring! Ideal for growing in pots or in-ground, these dainty wonders carry a big yield for their size!

Low chill; requires approximately 500 chill hours to reliably bloom and set fruit, and a long, hot growing season.

  • How old before it starts to produce fruit?

    If all goes well it should start producing fruit within 2-3 years after planting.

  • Hello, this tree comes up as hardy in zone 9 but then in product description it says hard to zone 6, which is the zone hardiness for this plant? 6 or 9?

    Yes. Keeping it in a pot can reduce its hardiness by up to a whole zone.

  • Can the Garden Delight Nectarine grow in a container? If so what size?

    Yes, it can grow in a large container. A half whiskey barrel (27 gallons) is sufficent.

Garden Delight Nectarine miniature

I ordered this tree May 16 and my UPS man delivered it May 24. One hour later it was planted in my commercial grade hoop house that has a 10 foot ceiling. I have a Necta Zee Nectarine planted in another greenhouse. I bought it from Raintree. It’s been there for decades and has done very well. Reliably ripening nectarines every summer. It’s in the ground and about 30 inches high. I’m hoping the Garden Delight does as well but grows a bit taller than 30 inches. The new tree was packaged very well and very healthy with many leaf buds swelling and ready to grow. Tree looks beautiful and very full less than 3 weeks later. Nice branching structure. Thank you!

My delight nectarine!

I love nectarines and was thrilled to find a dwarf variety. The packaging upon arrival was horrendous and I was worried the plants would be damaged. Amazingly the plants were in perfect condition and the Nectarine had buds on all branches. Very impressed with the quality of plants and this beautiful nectarine tree!
