Pyrus pyrifolia 'Korean Giant'

Also called Dan Bae or Olympic, Korean Giant is a vigorous, winter-hardy tree that produces at a young age and bears a heavy crop of large, round, olive-green fruit that can weigh up to a pound each! The fruit can be kept in cold storage until March. This highly touted pear blooms early in the season and ripens in mid-October. It is very crisp and juicy with a high sugar content.

Does well in most of the nation but can ripen too late in the coolest maritime summer climates.

Ask a Question
  • Exactly which Asian pear tree does this need to pollinate??? It keeps on changing on me when I double and triple check

Any other Asian Pear will cross pollinate fine. There are too many options for the suggestion app to display so they change.

  • How old or how large is the Korean Giant tree to be purchased or how many years after grafting? $59.00 is a good price for a vigorous well developed tree but for a very young one - not so much.

This is a 3-year old tree. Our experience is a large/older tree does not ship as well and is prone to die more often during transplant.

  • Hi, can you tell me how long it take for semi-dwarf 4'-5' korean giant asian pear tree to bear fruit Thanks

Usually 2-3 years if it establishes well.
