Prunus persica 'Avalon Pride'

Discovered as a chance seedling in 1981 in Issaquah, WA by Margaret Proud. Avalon Pride is a highly-flavored, yellow-fleshed, semi-freestone peach great for preserves, pies, poaching or eating fresh.

This late-blooming yet early-ripening variety has some resistance to peach leaf curl. As a patented variety, royalties of 75 cents per tree go to support fruit research at the WSU Mt. Vernon location.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • We grow organic. Does this tree need to be sprayed?

That depends entirely on your area and what you are spraying for. Avalon Pride has a mid-range disease resistance to leaf curl.

  • At 14’ high, how can this be a dwarf? Can it be maintained at 8 > 9’ and still be productive?

Both Lovell and Citation, the two rootstocks we carry these trees on, are very similar in size. You can prune it to whatever height you want if you maintain it annually.

  • Do you need another peach tree or apricot tree with this one?

Peaches need other peaches for cross pollination.
