Blue Pagoda™ Honeyberry

I got 2 honeyberrys. The blue hokkaida looks great it is getting leafs and looking healthy, but this Blue Pagoda does not appear well- the minisucle start of a leaf has not grown at all. It is basically a stick with 1 very tiny leaf bud that has not grown at all. I planted it the day it arrived about 3-4 weeks ago. The weather has been good. It has adequate water. IDK much about this variety, but I need 2 so they can polinate so hopefully it grows soon. Everything else I have purchased has been very good- but this one plant does not appear to be good. I hope it starts growing soon.

Mine died as well. After about 2 week. The little tiny leaves that were on the plant.. eventually dried up and died. Maybe ill try another kind that good for zone 5.

Blue Pagoda and Blue Mist were my first honeyberry plantings. Blue Pagoda blooms too early where I live (SW Ohio) for reliable cross pollination. Now that more recently planted varieties have good blooms, all my honeyberries except Blue Pagoda set fruit.

Blue Pagoda blooms before weather is warm enough for good pollinator activity and only partially overlaps with Blue Mist.

Arrived bare root, and 1 out of 2 branches were dead. Once out of the packaging the second branch started to leaf two tiny leaves. But, they fell off a couple of days after planting and there is no sign of life a few weeks later. Pretty sure it did not survive. My other honey berries planted last year (from a different distributor) are thriving.

I purchased two honeyberry, bareroot ($40/each) and one potted honeyberry from a different nursery ($25). The only one to survive was the potted one. The roots looked ok when they arrived in the mail but, unfortunately they were trying to leaf out which I think might have made them more fragile. (??) I followed directions that came with the plants but almost immediately after planting, the leaves withered and died. The plants never recovered. I have planted an incredible number of potted plants. Very occasionally I'll have one struggle, but I don't think I've ever had a potted plant completely die like this. If you decide to go ahead and buy bare root, good luck!
