Erioboytra japonica

Loquat seedlings have an evocative tropical form, with their large, leathery evergreen foliage and dense, compact form. Their delightfully sweet fruit is aromatic and looks like a small round apricot.

The tree is self-fertile and hardy to 12° F, blooming in late winter and sets fruit in areas with above-freezing winters and long, hot summers. It grows well, but rarely fruits in the Pacific Northwest. Loquat trees can grow to 20' tall or be kept small in a pot.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Have you heard of Loquat trees producing fruit in Port Townsend. I know we have quite a few palm trees in town if that means anything.

Loquat can produce in your area yes, provided it is given the right location and microclimate to ripen effectively.

  • What variety of loquat is this?

This is a seedling, so it has no variety name.
