Malus domestica 'Red Belle de Boskoop'

This heirloom keeper apple originated in Boskoop, Holland, in 1856, and is still prized in Europe where it is a popular commercial variety. Trees produce heavy crops of very large apples that are superior for cooking and baking into pies, with a rich balance of sweet and tart flavors. Red Boskoop is rated among the highest in phytonutrients, making it healthful and delicious!

The apples, which are russetted over a red base, ripen in mid-late fall and store well all winter long, with flavors improving as they age in storage. Trees have some resistance to scab.

  • Will Cox's Orange Pippin pollinate at Red Boskoop?

    Yes, but keep in mind that the Red Boskoop is a triploid. Triploids can recieve pollen from other apples, but cannot provide compatible pollen to return the favor.

  • I see this type will not pollinate a honeycrisp. Does this mean it will also not pollinate a Cosmic Crisp?

    Red Boskoop is a triploid and will not pollinate anything. Triploid apples produce an incompatible pollen. Please check out our Apple Growing guide for a full explination of triploid apples.

  • Will a red boskoop on standard pollinate a honeycrisp on standard

    No. Boskoop is a polyploid and will not provide usable pollen to the Honeycrisp. The Honeycrisp however will pollinate the Boskoop just fine.
