Malus domestica 'Kandil Sinap'

Kandil Sinap, the “sweet apple of Sinap”, was discovered on the Sinap peninsula of the Black Sea, in what is now Turkey, in the 1700's. This apple has an unusual oblong, almost cylindrical, form with a waxy skin and juicy, sweet-tart, complex flavor. Great for baking and fresh eating, these apples can keep for months!

Kandil Sinap is a reliable and heavy bearing tree with an upright form, like a pear tree, that makes it an excellent choice for smaller orchards. Midseason bloom, category 3. Probably lower chill, due to region of origin.  Ripens late, mid October in PNW. Fireblight resistant.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hello, I'm planning on ordering Enterprise and Greensleeves. Would either of these trees be a good pollinator for this variety? Thank you.

    Yes, both are excellent pollenizers.

  • What does “proper pollination” mean? How many trees minimum would you recommend! Thank you!

Proper pollination is at least 2 different variaties of apples. The number of trees one apple can provide pollen for depends heavily on the cultivar, pollinators, and climate. You should be safe with a 4:1 ratio of trees for pollination.

  • Will this variety do well in the Puget Sound area (west seattle)?

It does actually! Make sure you have proper pollination.
