QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • All the fruits is sweet?

    You bet!

  • How long until it bears fruit?

If well established and cared for, within 2-3 years

  • Will the any of the fruit cocktail trees grow in zone 10a

Your zone isn't enough information when you're asking about heat. Please contact help@raintreenursery.com with your location information.

  • Hello what are the 4 varieties of Fruit Cocktail trees can you order and how do you pick the one you want?

Frost Peach, Puget Gold Apricot, Hardired Nectarine, Sweetheart Cherry, Italian Prune and/or Lapins Cherry are available in various combonations of 4.Ā  Please Note: We cannot guarantee specific variety requests for combo trees due to the numerous factors that can affect successful grafting. If you desire a specific varietal, we recommend purchasing it as a single-graft tree from our collection.

  • What zones can they survive and thrive?

As listed on the product page they do well in USDA Zones 5-9. Howver that's enough information to tell you if they will thrive or even survive your climate. Please contact our horticulturist and let us know more about your area.

  • Hi! I am wondering if these will do well in Western Washington? Specifically curious about Seattle and Bellingham areas. Thanks!

Yes, they will perform well in your growing region. This is a great option for Wester Washington growers, especially those near the Sound.

  • Do the fruit cocktail trees improve disease resistance?

No, there is no improved disease resistance.

  • What cross polinators are required for this?

For the most part none! All, but one, of these varieties are considered self fertile and will bear fruit without further cross pollination. Rainer cherries, however, will require another sweet cherry for pollination.

  • How big is it when it ships

    4'-5' tall

  • It says semi-dwarf 4-5 feet at the top but in the Q&A it says it is 14 feet high and spread. What is the actual height and spread? Also, I’m in Port Townsend near North Beach. Well it do well here? Thanks!

4-5 feet is the height when shipped. 14 feet is the average mature height. It should grow fine in your area if given proper care.

  • What kind of soil, mulch and compost is the best to plant this tree in? Should I add a certain kind when planting?

Check out our tree planting video on YouTube for a step-by-step on how to plant a fruit tree (including this one)!

  • Will this cocktail tree do well in Portland, Oregon? My apricot has not done well here and the winters are not as cold as they used to be.

The tree itself should do fine, but summer growing and ripening conditions will determine how well the apricot bears.

  • Do all fruits really grow from the same tree? It may sound crazy but if so I've never heard if this.

They do because of a special interstem that is compatible with all of the buds.

  • Can this be kept in a pot on the patio?

In a half wine barrel probably yes, but not forever.

  • What is the spread of the tree? 14 ft hight by what width?

14' tall by roughly 14' wide.

I am anticipating an assortment of tasty fruit

I am anticipating an assortment of tasty fruit when this tree begins to mature. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is a well grafted tree and the grafts are seasoned in with some age, so therefore they should be stronger than a younger tree would be. The tree arrived on Friday and I was able to get it in the ground the next day after 24 hours of soaking (per the video). So far, so good.

Already Blooming

I have had my tree do a week. 4 of the branches already have buds. Can’t wait to see it grow. Will be buying another cherry tree so the Rainer cherry can be pollinated/fertilized. Great shipping and product so far.

As promised!

The fruit cocktail tree arrive in excellent condition. It was professionally packaged and delivered on time as promised. The trunk is very strong and the graphs were meticulously applied. The tree is very healthy and three days after planting, it is showing growth. I would definitely recommend Raintree Nursery for future purchases to place in my food forest.

Fruit Cocktail Tree šŸ’œ

Tree arrive in good shape and I planted according to instructions. It’s approximately 3’ tall. It had one little broken twig, no big deal. I trimmed it off and was thrilled to see the green underneath. Anxiously awaiting leaves. I got Frost Peach, Puget Apricot, Italian Plum, Rainer Cherry, and Lupin Cherry. Color me happy!! ā¤ļø

Very Satisfied So Far!!

The product page states to indicate preferred fruit varieties when ordering (at the same time stating that they cannot guarantee). I had my wish list of fruit types (peach, cherry, apricot and Italian Plum) but very anxious that I might not get the varieties that I wanted - especially after learning that only the Rainier Cherry is not self-fertile since I did not have any other cherry for cross-pollination. Imagine my pleased reaction when it arrived with, not 4 but 6, different varieties (Frost Peach, Puget Gold Apricot, Rainier Cherry, Hardy Red Nectarine, Italian Prune and Lapin Cherry) all on one tree! I didn't realize that this is what was meant or intended by 4 varieties!
Well, the shipping date was postponed further out due to climate/weather conditions without a date shown online when I might expect it to ship. But when it arrived it was a bit of a surprise as well since I knew it was coming any day but didn't know which day. I had already familiarized myself with the Raintree videos on how to plant it and I had pre-dug and refilled the hole and had everything ready but I only probably soaked it for a half hour before I got it in the ground right away. I think I dug it wide enough and used a compost/soil mixture, underground ring of hardware cloth and even applied bone meal to the roots. On top I laid down straw, sphagnum peat poss, cardboard, pine shavings, blood meal and watered that all so I hope that it has a good chance of success. The graftings were perfectly done by Raintree in an ascending spiral around the trunk. It seems that this is a very technical art or science. Here's hoping it thrives! Thank you!!

Happy tree

My fruit tree arrived in good shape and was planted within 30 minutes of receiving it. It seems to be a happy tree and it’s buds are already appearing. I love trees and this tree is a great addition to my backyard orchard.

WONDERFUL tree

First, when I ordered the tree I emailed with my preference for fruit combos (understanding that it may not be available) and was THRILLED to receive exactly the combination of fruits that I had hoped for. There is a favorite for everyone on there. The tree arrived in excellent condition. We planted according to the directions and it almost immediately had buds. Now the tree is fully leafed out on every branch, and there are even cherries on it already. We seriously planted this tree a few months ago. I will be purchasing more trees from this nursery.

Tree arrived nice and healthy and I love that they waited to ship it out for a better planing in my zone of 5b.

Not bad, will update once it leafs out.

The fruit cocktail tree I received was well packaged and arrived intact. I knew it would probably be a 4 in one versus a five in one and a four in one is what I received. One of the branches a cherry arrived very dessicated but it appears one or two of the buds may still be viable. If this turns out to be a 4 in one tree I still think it is a good value but if it ends up only having 3 varieties from the start I would have purchased a different item.

Disappointed with the variety

Disappointed with the variety. I wish there was a way to pick. I got two kinds of cherry which I’m sure will be delicious but I really hoped to have 4 different fruits to make a better mix.
Just received so can’t say really how it will grow. Hopefully it does well.

I've ordered two

I bought one last year, and again this year. I love the concept, and decided I needed a backup. They came with the same fruit varieties, turned out.

The one last year put out leaves on all the branches, but the peach ones curled and died along with the branch. I assume it just wasn't strong enough for the peach leaf curl problem. One of the other branch's leaves were lighter color at the edges and didn't seem as healthy. I asked Raintree about this and they suggested a fertilizer. This spring the remaining three branches all seem quite happy so far, especially the cherry, which looks like it's trying to fruit.

The one I bought this year didn't ship until pretty late in the season, and I'm only just starting to see leaf buds. I hope this won't hurt the growth this year too much. It's looking pretty bare next to the one from last year, which has already finished flowering. I'll also be interested in whether the peach graft dies again. Frost peach is supposed to be resistant, but that's not been my experience.

Excited for fruit!!

The tree looks great! I’ve got leaves forming on all grafted branches but one. The last branch still looks healthy and alive, but probably isn’t ready to bloom yet. I’m looking forward to see what comes. I am somewhat concerned by the varieties I was sent. I don’t know if I will get enough chill hours for some of them. I guess we’ll see!

Fruit Cocktail Tree

The tree arrived at the perfect time for my growing season this spring. It was well boxed and like my order last fall, in excellent condition. Last fall I ordered a three pear variety, and the blooms are amazing this spring. Even with the harsh winter we had this year, the pear tree looks very healthy.

This recent order was for the fruit cocktail tree and again it was in great condition, looks great. Time will tell how both of these trees do, but I will say the products shipped to me were magnificent. I’ve had many trees shipped to me over the years from many other nurseries, and none of them were as good as Raintree.’s. I wish I would have discovered Raintree sooner.

Fruit Salad Tree

The tree arrived in good shape and seems to be doing well; however, I thought one of the fruits on the tree would be apricot. I was disappointed to have two types of plums but no apricot.

Great tree!

I received my tree this spring. It had the Italian prune, nectarine and two kinds of cherries. The tree was packaged well and very healthy. Best of all I got cherries this summer!! Only like 12 cherries but still awesome for the first year!

Very excited for this tree!

The tree arrived in great shape, survived the 2 days of unseasonably blazing hot temperatures we had, and now all 4 grafts are showing signs of life. I am very happy with this one.

12 days later and lots of new growth!

I am very pleased with having a fruit cockatail tree that can also have cherries on it! Not only that, the cherry branch was the first one out the gate with buds and has the most growth so far and well as flowers now! WOW! I am elated that I pre-ordered two trees last year! I wish I could afford to buy a few more for my family and friends, I WILL be a repeat customer!
