Pyrus pyrifolia 'Kosui'

This russeted selection is one of the best tasting of all Asian pears. It is a reliable bearer of medium-to-large, delicious fruit. The russeting of the skin lends a nice, nutty flavor to the eating experience.

Can be susceptible to pseudomonas in very cool, wet spring regions, but shows some fireblight resistance. It's a great choice in much of the nation.

Chill Hours Needed: Unverified/Most Asian pears require 400-450 chill hours

    Yes Kosui and Hosui are different cultivars.

I tried a Kosui pear today and this website came up when I tried to find out more about the fruit. If I had space for a tree at my home, I would plant one! Fruit is beautifully round and almost like a apple shape, easy to core and seeds are centralized. Its almost like a cross between a pear and an apple but nicely sweet vs tart. Seems like it would store well over the fall / winter. Grower says it has vanilla and butterscotch tones and I can concur this is true.
