Betty Peach

My bare root tree was delivered, and I was concerned it didn't break dormancy within the timeframe expected. I wrote, and was told to wait a little longer. Fair enough, I did that. Out of 8 branches and the main trunk, only 3 broke bud. The main trunk and all other branches were dead. The 3 branches that lived all were on the same side. When asked what the resolution would be, I was told to train an existing branch to be the new trunk, and hopefully next spring it would have settled in and make new branches. Really? THIS is the customer service? I've purchased trees here before, but will not do so again.

With plenty of nurseries selling the same trees, buying from Raintree is akin to buying a box of paper towels from Whole Foods. But, the comparison stops there. Tree came in well packaged and protected from drying out, multiple feathers to pick from and sizable caliper trunk. From my past experience I believe this tree will fruit next year.

My Betty peach arrived looking extremely healthy. I socked it overnight in some diluted fish emulsion water. I planted it immediately and it appears the buds are swelling.

I live on the coast of Northern California and this peach tree does extremely well. The fruit turns out red and beautiful with delicious flavor and texture. Most peach trees do not do well in my climate and many folks swear that you can only grow a Frost Peach in my area. I would argue that Betty produces fruit far better than Frost.
One thing to note, Betty gets hit pretty hard by peach curl when it is young, but it just makes new leaves and seems to do fine. I hear it gets hardier with age and so far that seems to be the case.
My Frost peach, growing right next to Betty, got hit by a black fungus this year and died. Betty is showing no signs of fungus and is growing strong.

But struggling to make it as the season progresses

Arrived in great shape. Hope to eat home grown delicious peaches in a few years.

This is a great peach tree. It grew quickly and produced fruit after two years. The fruit was excellent too.

If this old lady could send everyone at Raintree a hug and big fat sugar cookie, I would. The two peach trees that I just received were as if you transported them to me using something magical. They look as if they were just processed and packed today!!!

The trees arrived in my Southern Colorado town the very day before strong dry winds were expected with temperatures in the 90 s. So instead of opening the box, (knowing how well they re always packed) we just took it to the basement where the humidity and temperature is more stable. I waited until the winds subsided and the temperatures regulated back to normal on Sunday to bring the trees up and open the box. Now I m getting them reading for soaking and planting.. We have town water that is treated with chlorine, so, I filled a bucket with water to sit for a couple of hours in the sun to dissipate any lingering chemicals. That s where I m at for now.. The rest, I m sure, will go as was demonstrated in the video with Laura.
