Malus domestica 'Centennial'

Be prepared for heavy crops of small, sweet, oval-shaped fruit! Use these crispy, juicy, white-fleshed apples for canning, making jelly, or just popping in your mouth! Centennial is a bright orange-red apple that ripens early in the season, and its early-to-midseason bloom time makes it a fantastic pollinator for your home orchard. Centennial is also a great ornamental tree, producing an abundance of striking red buds that open into a showy display of snow white flowers!

Naturally dwarfing, Centennial tops out at 8' making it an easy fit for most locations. Good resistance to scab.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 3

Mature Height: 8' (Genetic Dwarf)

Sun: Full Sun

Bloom Time: Early Midseason, Bloom Group 2

Ripening Time: Early - September in PNW

Pollination: Needs a Pollinizer

Semi-Dwarf Rootstock: MM106

Only the rootstock was alive.

This was an end of season sale. It arrived dead early June, but I was advised it might take two months to bud out (really??). No green anywhere and now 3 months later after careful attention the grafted crabapple is still dead. I have ordered from Raintree repeatedly since the late 1990s but customer service said the sale trees were not guaranteed. I'm sad to say it but I will never order from Raintree again.

Centennial and Dolgo crabapples

I received a Centennial and a Dolgo crabapple. Both are beautiful trees that were well packaged. I'm going to use these trees as co-pollinators of my cider apple trees. They have been potted and look great. I will nurture them and transplant them in the orchard this fall.

Great purchase

This tree arrived healthy with many branches and began putting off leaf buds within a week of planting. It’s currently covered with lots of green and seems happy in my clay soil (zone 6b). I’m happy with it!

It died within the year, we had to purchase another one

At first the planting looked ok, but after a while it started losing foliage, and then died completely. We ordered a new one and hope it will work better.

The plant is going strong

The plant came out of dormancy a week after planting, leafing out and so lushy. I will buy from this nursery again. My next purchase will be the dolgo crabapple.

Great Condition, Ample Blooms, Healthy Roots

I would have been perfectly satisfied with a dormant sapling. The sapling I received had generous roots that were ready for deep planting. The branches had dozens of buds that blossomed within a week. All in all, the sapling was in great health, making me confident it'll be a great pollinator for my other apple trees.

One of the trees was not dormant. There were little green leafy buds on every branch.

Everything else looked great.

Centennial crabapple

A vole girdled my last centennial crabapple so I ordered a replacement from Raintree. Arrived alive with lots of branches and on time. Thanks

Fun and tasty

Very early ripening, cute and tasty. We ate these right off of the tree-they are very tangy and sweet. Last year's crop made delicious light golden applesauce.
