Prunus domestica 'Ersinger'

A "German Prune" plum with delicious flavor and truly spectacular fragrance. It crops heavily and ripens early in the season. The skin is blue and the shape is oblong to pointed.

It just gets better

The Ersinger plum/St. Julian A combination continues to impress. Here in eastern WA sudden early cold snaps can occur, in which St. Julian A rootstock shows an unexpected benefit: It triggers early dormancy. All the leaves on this tree had fallen before a low of 16°F came in October, while Mt. Royal on Mariana2624 retained all its foliage. (Being so very hardy, Mt. Royal remained undamaged.) This Ersinger produced at least 40 fruits in its second crop, while still growing at a reasonable rate. I plan to thin it next season to encourage the tree to gain size.

Scented delight

I bought Ersinger Plum on St. Julian A stock. It bloomed in its third leaf after planting, with no other plum nearby to share bloom time with. I thinned the fruits to 20 & hope that number will not tax the young tree for blooming next season. Small, 22 Brix, hardly any line to be seen from stem to bloom end, fully freestone, they had a flowery overtone unlike any plum I've tasted so far. Winner!
