The Joan J is a superior thornless red raspberry variety highly regarded by both home gardeners and commercial producers for its outstanding traits and robust performance. This primocane-fruiting (fall-bearing) raspberry yields fruit on current-year canes, displaying strong, upright, mostly self-supporting canes. Its thornless nature simplifies harvesting significantly. Joan J produces large, firm, deep ruby-red berries with a glossy finish, conical shape, and small drupelets that enhance their texture. Known as one of the highest-yielding varieties, it delivers abundant crops that maintain berry size throughout the season. The fruit is versatile, ideal for fresh consumption, freezing, baking, jams, and preserves.
