Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca 'Mirabelle de Metz'

A member of the Royal Court of Plums! Soft, sweet, exquisitely-flavored Mirabelle de Metz plums are small-stoned, freestone, and yellow dotted with carmine red. This very old, French cultivar of the wonderful Mirabelle ripens in late summer and produces heavily each year. The intensely sweet and fragrant fruits require very little added sugar to create luscious preserves and baked goods.

While Mirabelles tend to be shy pollen producers, this variety will need a pollinizing partner. Upright and blazingly productive most years.

USDA Zone: 5-9

Grow Height:  12'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: September

Pollination: Needs a Pollinizer (Mirabelle)

Had high hopes

We had high hopes when we first received the trees and we're still hopful it will start to bud and leaf. We planted this tree on the back side of our garage wanting to espalier it in a fan so how the branches came off naturally gave a good start for us. But as it is now the trees have been in for about a month the pluot is thriving in our orchard area and the mirabelle is not coming to life at all.

a little bit of the old country in the USA.

Ever since arriving in the U.S. with my family back in the 60's, I yearned to find a way to once again taste the delicious fruit of the Maribelle. A few years back, i discovered Raintree Nursery and found that they, through a miracle of grafting, offer the Mirabelle plum. My first attempt (totally my fault) ended in a disappointment in trying to achieve too much from the Florida climate. I am now in my 2nd and recently 3rd purchase of the Mirabelle plum this time being in the New England Northeast. #2 is doing quite well despite the hungry insects and although I did not need to worry about fertilization, I purchased #3 just because I wanted #2 to have a friend. Ha Ha. I will reap my reward when the trees start producing fruit.

Dwarf Plum Trees

My trees were delivered late one afternoon and were planted the very next day. As of today there is still no signs of life for either of them. I'm very disappointed.

I am originating from the Metz region and i was so so so so stoked to find affordable mirabelle trees! My trees came well pacakged and in stellar condition. We planted them right away and they are doing fantastic, with their first leaves budding, not even a whole week after planting them! I am excited and stoked that I eventually will have my beloved mirabelle jam and cakes in the future! (We also ordered lowbush Blueberries in another order that arrived the same day, which also arrived super super healthy and are thriving!)
I will definitely chose Raintree Nursery for my future purchases!

Bare root but looked fantastic. I can't wait to see it leaf out! Well pruned out of the box!

Mirabelle de Metz

Received a bare root Mirabelle de Metz tree in excellent condition. Potted the tree in a 10 gallon pot and the tree immediately began to leaf out. Plan to transplant to a permanent location in the next few weeks. Very pleased with my new European plum tree!

New Mirabelles at New Hampshire

Metz and Nancy arrived in good condition, well-packaged. Good root and branch structure, completely dormant. Gave them nice wide holes, sunny spot, backfilled adding plenty of humus. I'm looking forward to seeing them grow, here in Seacoast NH, Zone 6a.

They made a mistake, and they fixed it

Raintree Nursery made a mistake, then owned up to it, and fixed it as best they could. They had shipped me two fruit trees that, four years later when the trees started bearing fruit, I learned were (similar but) the wrong trees. To their credit, Raintree recognized the problem, and fixed it as best they could by shipping me two trees that they double promise are the right ones.

Not sure that they have any customer service except to take your payment.

Worst Company with whom I have ever done business. I purchased 2 Mirabelle Plum trees. One did well and other never showed any signs of growth so they had me send photos and to do a scratch test. The first test on the trunk showed some life but 2 months later, it showed none. I have contacted them 5 times now by phone & email, sending more photos and the last scratch test. They have not responded to any in the past 3 weeks. I have never spoken with a person as they never answer the phone but tell you to leave messages which they never respond to. So far, no response by email either. I would like my $59 + tax + shipping or a replacement tree so that my other will pollinate but In 3 wks have yet to have a response.

Hello Patricia, thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience. I am very sorry we were not more available to respond to your request. I have reviewed your order and see that we have placed a store credit on your account for the failed Mirabelle Plum. The store credit will allow you to place order for a new one. If you have any issues using your store credit, please email us at help@raintreenursery.com and we will help you place an order. Best, Raintree Nursery

Very strong tree with good platform

The M. de Metz seems less common in U.S. than other Mirabelles and is recommended for cooking, much like a prune type. Followed Raintree advice and planted the tree near other plums for pollination.
