Prunus domestica 'Purple Gage'

We love Purple Gage, also called "Reine Claude Violette", for its sweet, dense, rich flavor and beautiful purple color. A great choice for the home gardener, Purple Gage is easy to grow with huge crops of fruit in August. A freestone plum with a small pit, the tree is upright and productive. A great dessert plum.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What pollinator should I buy for the Gage plum tree? Thank you !

Gage plums do best with other Gage plums.

  • So this & a couple of Mirabelle plum trees will pollinate each other?

In most cases Gage plums are the best pollinators for Mirabelle plums - however the Mirabelle plums may stuggle to return to favor unless the Gage is planted close by.

  • What's the estimated chill hours of Purple Gage? I may experiment growing it here in zone 10a.

    700+ chilling hours

  • Hi! Would this be a good pollinator for a Mirabelle? I’m looking for a blue/purple one to contrast with the golden Mirabelle I hope to put in a front yard planting scheme.

Yes, Gage is the best pollinator for Mirabelle plums.

  • What pollinizer should I get for my dwarf purple gage European plum tree?

Another gage is best, but most non-prune European plums will do

  • Is this potted plant or bare root?

This tree is shipped bare root.

  • what does partially self fertile mean, do i need a second tree

It means the tree will produce a little to some fruit on it's own, and more with a pollinizer.

Great quality

Really nice sized tree! Lots of branching on ours. I planted immediately and leaves started emerging about 2 weeks later. Looking forward to this tree!
