This dogwood variety, also known as Cornelian cherry, makes beautiful smaller ornamental trees with soft, foamy yellow flowers in late winter, attractive summer foliage and pretty fall leaf color - in addition to the hearty, cherry-like fruit. Many gardeners plant dogwoods for their ornamental beauty, but in Russia and Eastern Europe, Cornelian cherry is prized for heavy production of delicious, sweet/tart fruit that makes superb jelly, syrup and wine.
