Sultane Fig

Just planted, but very pleased with the quality of the plant so far (photo).

I received two plants from Raintree in one gallon pots. They had healthy root systems and were about 18" tall. I planted them the day they arrived and will look forward to seeing them leaf out next year.

Both starts arrived in great shape, were potted almost immediately in Cedar Grove Potting Soil mix (a nice pH for figs), and haven;t missed a beat. I like purchasing fig starts from Raintree because figs have come from other nurseries loaded with viruses. In fact, I had to throw away a recent order from another nursery, as the plant was so bad I did not want it in my orchard with the other figs. Scuking insects spread viruses quickly, especially in overcrowded high tunnels. Raintree sells figs that have propagated using (I think it is called) meristem culture, which greatly reduces, if not eliminates, the virus load in the young plants. Excellent decision to go that route, Raintree! You've got my business!

Although it was quite a trip all the way to Miami the figs arrived in great shape, mainly due the size of the container and the way they where packed and shipped.

It has already grown a lot of new leaves. I already had a couple other fig trees. This will be a nice addition.

The fig plant was dormant and very well packaged.
