I love this sour tasting apple and it produces large apples

Shipping was extremely fast. My tree was packaged quite securely with plenty of moist shredded paper to protect the roots. The tree is very symmetrical and budding already. This is the third tree I have purchased from Raintree and couldn’t be more impressed with their quality and service.

I ordered and received this apple last year. It looked nice and had plenty (of small) leaves already. Did my best to plant it where it would like it. However it did not do anything, no growth of the leaves etc. After a month or two the leaves dried up, the tree had received plenty of water). I contacted Raintree and they said they would refund it. I will try again. I think the tree was frozen or got to dry during transport. (we live in New Mexico). I do like Raintree's service a lot!

Jacobsen's apple book calls the Karmijn a "seldom seen but universally adored" rarity, and as an acid charged "spherical margarita," so how could I resist. I'm a little worried that it "struggles" in a damp climate like that of western WA, but it's worth a try. As usual, my Raintree tree was in excellent condition.

I planted one of these in the early 90s from raintree like the rest of my trees. Before I made deer fencing the deer came and tore it to bits resulting in a tree that grew closer to the ground and spread out like a Dali espalier! Very healthy tree- I never spray except occasional dormant oil- very occasional. No problems with foliage and the fruit had no scabbing. Fairly large fruit size with a somewhat dense and crispy texture which gets a little smoother after storing for a while. Sweet and tart at the same time- very intense flavor. The tree bears alot of fruit. These bake well too. Im within a mile of the puget sound near tacoma- no problems growing this tree. I dont live at that property anymore but I have seen the tree- its still going strong of course.

Maybe I'm ignoring issues but I have had this tree for almost 20 years. I have never sprayed it and only prune it when the branches hang out too far over my driveway. It is an abundant producer of great looking apples. I eat them fresh, store some, and make cider from the rest. This is not a bland apple and I like that!

I love it; my husband not so much. But I haven t found any issues with needing lots of maintenance, water, diseases, splitting. Seems trouble-free, to me, over the maybe 10 years I ve had it. Grown on Whidbey Island, Island County, Washington state. We were introduced to this apple at the Washington Sate University Research Station at Mount Vernon.

I ve had this tree for 19 years and find it to be a high maintenance variety.
Very susceptible to most common troubles requiring a very tight spray regiment.
Tends to overhear requiring aggressive thinning to prevent limb damage and inconsistent crops.
Consistent watering is beneficial in the dry times or fruit will split.
Absolutely the best for sweet and hard Cider, too intense for eating out of hand.

I planted this apple tree ~ 20 years ago the flavor & texture of this apple is my favorite.
