North Pole™ is a bright red, crunchy, McIntosh apple that ripens in the mid-season. Enjoy these shiny red apples with that classic McIntosh crunch even in small spaces!

Columnar apple trees are trees that produce their fruit on spurs along the main stem. Columnar trees combine disease resistance, flavor, and ease of growing in small spaces as each has a narrow upright habit.

Ideally suited to grow in a container, on a patio, or as a small tree in the ground, trees grow to about 8' tall. Like other apples, you will need two different cultivars for pollination.  Columnar apple varieties bloom in the mid and mid-late seasons and are good pollinizers for any other apple variety!

Chill hours 800 to 1200. On MM106 semi-dwarf rootstock.

  • I am looking Apple tree that the fruit flavor closed to sugarbee which is crunchy, juicy, and sweet. I am at zone 9b. Thank you.

    This is a great option or you can try the parent varietal, Honeycrisp. 

  • Since the columnar apples need a pollinator, can you buy one of each species to successfully cross pollinate?

    Yes! They are all cross compatible and overlap in bloom time.

  • how far apart can you plant these since it looks like a pole instead of traditionally tree

    As close as 3 feet apart is usually fine.

  • How big around do these get at maturity?

    Roughly 10-12 feet tall

  • If planting to columnar trees in a pot what is the best size to use.

    For the life of the tree? At least 22 gallons or even a half wine barrel.

Apple tree arrived

Apple tree arrived in good shape and it has been planted in soil with some fertilizer and surrounded with plants that are supposed to be positive for Apple trees.

Fruit trees

I had three trees in this order and all seeded well until the following spring where I found all three skin test brown. I have other trees of different variety that are growing nicely. I can't understand why some make and some don't in the same environment.

Better than last time

I have received many bare root plants from Raintree Nursery and they have all been in excellent condition and these last two trees were actually better than all the rest.
Raintree Nursery is the only nursery I will order plants from, they are located in Western Washington at a higher elevation than I am so if they can grow it so can I, and the quality is top notch…There is a YouTube Gardener in Jersey who also orders from Raintree Nursery

It’s a beauty!

I’ve had my North Pole columnar apple tree for approximately 8 years now (possibly 9). At first I had it in a very large pot, but it got so high I couldn’t reach the top branches. I replanted it in the ground, I’d say it’s 10 feet tall now, it’s a prolific bearer of delicious apples.
I highly recommend it if you have limitrd space for a regular apple tree.

These columnar trees are the best!

These 2 trees were packed so well, I doubt anything within reason could cause breakage, etc. The Golden sentinel is planted, The stock and roots are impressive. I have one of these trees from Raintree years ago. It is thriving.Raintree does a great job of of giving the trees the optimum start. So easy to take care of, compared to standard trees. I will be buying a couple more. I can have a variety of cultivars in a modest amount of space. I will be buying more of these and pear trees, but only at Raintree, because they do a great job of the stock, and roots. It all starts there, Five stars from me.

It’s a stick

I thought I was getting a tree, ya know, with leaves and branches. Instead, I got a completely bare stick with dry roots. Planted it, but do not have high hopes.

My columnar apple tree arrived in excellent shape and has been planted. It looks like it is getting ready to burst forth from being dormant!
