Pronounced 'ah-kah-nay,' this firm, crisp and fully-flavored red eating apple produces good crops every year, no matter how bad the spring pollinating weather.

The scab and mildew-resistant apple from Japan is an excellent variety for the organic grower. It ripens in early fall.

  • When will my Akane Apple be ready to pick. There are apples on the tree, they are smallish and not entirely red at this point. It is a young tree in a reasonably large pot getting pretty much full sun. I am in Everett .Thank you.

    In our area Akane ripens mid September, but the exact time will vary with location and climate. It ripens much earlier in areas with an earlier summer.

  • Will the Akane grow in zone 7 and if so, what other types will it cross pollinate with?

  • Is it possible to obtain an Akane tree on standard rootstock?

    We do not carry it on standard stock at this time.

  • Does this Akane apple tree cross pollinate with Honey Crisp? And how many chill hours? I am zone 9

    Akane does not cross pollinate Honeycrisp, they are too far apart in bloom times. Akane requires 800+ chilling hours.
