QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • The City accidentally replaced my damaged (auto crashed!) ginkgo street tree with a female, and I get fruit like crazy (making a big mess on the sidewalk)! Some elderly neighbors come by and take as many nuts as they can (I welcome them!), but I had heard that ginkgo fruits were toxic unless handled just right. Can you say more about how to make the nuts edible? And are any ginkgo nuts edible, or only certain cultivars? Thanks!

Ginkgotoxin in nuts is a complicated subject with concentrations varying wildly depending on location and season and toxicity appearing at different rates in different people. Ginkgotoxin action is still poorly understood and there is no reliable way to remove it from the nuts. The safest bet is to not eat them.

  • Do you have female ginkgo tree ?

This is a female ginko tree.
