Golden raspberry plants are a unique variety of raspberry that produces sweet, honey-flavored yellow to golden berries, prized for their mild flavor and striking appearance. These plants thrive in well-drained, fertile soil with a slightly acidic pH of 5.5–6.5 and require full sun for the best fruit production. Like other raspberries, golden varieties grow on biennial canes, with first-year canes (primocanes) developing foliage and second-year canes (floricanes) bearing fruit, although some varieties are everbearing and fruit on primocanes as well. To grow golden raspberries, choose a sunny location, amend the soil with compost, and space plants about 2–3 feet apart. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and reduce weed competition, and water regularly, especially during dry periods. Install a trellis or support system to help keep the canes upright. Prune to remove spent floricanes after harvest and thin primocanes to encourage healthy growth. Tip prune when the canes get to be head high for maximum berry production. With proper care, golden raspberry plants can yield an abundant harvest of unique, flavorful berries.
