Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca 'Parfum de September'

This sweet, highly flavored, aromatic Mirabelle plum from France ripens two weeks after the other Mirabelle plums. Holds well on the tree and can be picked for three weeks, extending the Mirabelle harvest season. The fruit is small and yellow/orange.

The tree is very productive and can be partially self fertile in some locations. Great ornamental value as sometimes fruit or leaves are streaked with white, a naturally occurring trait unique to this cultivar.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How many chill hours are required for fruiting Parfume de September plum? (I reliably get 500, but how much over that is iffy.)

Many mirabelle plums, including this one, do not have confirmed chilling hours at this time. Mirabelle de Nancy is confirmed to need 300-400 hours and Reine de Mirabelle is in the 600+ range.

  • freestone?

Yes, completely. Part of why mirabelle plums are so beloved.

  • What plum trees are good pollinizers for the Mirebelles?

Gage plums are best, but Coe's Golden Drop and Monsuier Hatif are also known to be very compatible.

  • I have grown a Perfume de September healthy flowering plum tree. It is now 8 years old and I have yet to get a single plum. Please help!!

(Updated answer) How frustrating! There are a number of factors that can go into fruit set on a plum tree, including too much water, too little water, environmental stress, late winters, and poor pollination. The first step is to check and see if the tree is successfully flowering. If it is, ensure proper pollintion and check for fruit set. If not, you may need to amend the soil with a bloom fertilizer or "tip back" the tree before flowering to stimulate the fruiting spurs. Hope this helps!

Rare plum came in great shape.

Just received this plum. As always with Raintree, the tree is top quality, excellent and generous root structure, good branching, primo all around. Of course, the top is cropped so as to fit in the shipping box but that's no problem - I can prune it to get the structure I favor. For plums this is my go-to nursery.

Prolific Tree

Summer 2021 is the third season that the September Perfume Mirabelle plum has bloomed and set fruit. Here in Walla Walla, Wa. it produces a prolific amount of firm-flesh, bing-cherry size, sweet, apricot-flavored plums that ripen during the last part of August to the middle of September. The tree is pruned to 6-ft with a bowl-like open center so picking can be done standing on the ground. The fruit are such a hit that I ordered a Geneva Mirabelle whip in 2020.

Prettiest little tree in my orchard

Planted in early 2020, and despite some severe beating by high Dungeness winds, it s grown rapidly and filled out well. The tree s natural platforming seems good, and I don t think I ll need to prune it much. I ll second the promotional claim that it has great ornamental value; my tree hasn t developed much white streaking yet, but the leaf shape and color are outstanding. This is one of my first European plums, so maybe rapid growth is to be expected, but I am nonetheless impressed by how steadily it s developing.

Plum wont fruit

I planted this plum 8 years ago and have not had a single plum. I live in Maryland. Every year I get flowers and I raise bees, so pollination not a problem.
