Ambassador is a cold hardy Carpathian hybrid selected for extremely cold climates. Through it comes to us from Idaho, Ambassador was originally introduced in the 1930's from Poland. Ambassador sets crops of 1 1/4" nuts that have a thin shell and are well sealed. Plump, light-colored kernels, feature excellent flavor and texture. Young trees set heavy crops.

A patented variety, Ambassador is self-fertile and though heat tolerant, it needs about 600 chill hours to produce.

Few roots, little growth, and Fire blight?

On arrival the tree had three, crayon-thick roots and no fibrous roots. I planted it in well-drained soil on a sunny site. It did take a while to get going but most of the new leaves appeared on the rootstock and not the grafted-on. I removed the rootstock growth and got one set of leaves from the grafted portion which then got what appeared to be fire blight. I carefully removed the affected leaves but the tree is really struggling and I do not believe it will last the winter.

Still waiting

All other bareroot trees planted at the same time are already groeing vigorusly. The Walnut looks the same as when planted. May just need more time.

Very healthy

This tree showed up in perfect shape. The package and root wrap were perfect with plenty of moisture. I am very pleased with Raintree. Keep up the good work.

Disappointing so far but spring may make a difference

We planted a Bareroot Walnut but there are no visible buds below where it was pruned for shipping. The roots were minimal but the weather hasn't warmed up enough yet to cause great concern.
