Corylus avellana 'Polly O'

This latest release (2018) from OSU allows growers to plant in a trio of filbert varieties (Polly O, Wepster and McDonald) that will cross-pollinate and produce high yields of nuts that are perfect for shelling, for fresh eating, adding to baked goods, or surrounding with chocolate. In fact, any early-blooming filbert (excepting the incompatible Felix and Hall's Giant) will provide successful pollination.

Polly O trees are the most vigorous and productive of the three varieties, so give them a bit more elbow room. Named for Polly Owen, a long-time Oregon hazelnut Industry official.

Trees came with an infestation of aphids. The company said use dish soap, I did but it didn’t help.

8 hazelnut trees

I don't have 8 polly-o hazelnut trees.I have 1 polly-o,1 dorris,1 york,2 webster and 3 macDonalds.I made anerror on my last review.

filbert blight

I have 8 hazelnut trees or bushes now that there are blight immune varieties.They are all healthy and doing well.The only problem now is trying to get to the nuts before the squirrels do.They don't wait until the nuts are ripe,but pick them 2 months early.Also,hazelnuts seem to grow better in bush form.

Excellent health, arrived in good time

I ordered a Wepster and a Polly-O from here and a few other Hazelnuts from other orchards and I have to say Raintree's arrived huge and vigorous and very good looking, I rarely write reviews but they really put the other trees I bought to shame!

Polly O hazelnut

Polly-o filber came with white spots on leaves & so far is not doing very well after planting. It also got hit by freezing temps before it had a chance to settle in & take roots in new place. Hopefully Polly-onis survivor, but it’s too early to say.
