Prunus mume 'Bungo'

A beautiful flowering apricot, from the Bungo region of Japan, which has fragrant, long-lasting white flowers showing the softest pink blush in earliest spring. The fruit which follows is up to 2" in diameter and is used in Asian delicacies such as plum sauce and umeboshi (salt plums).

Use another P. mume for cross pollination and better fruit set. Bungo is a beautiful ornamental that often blooms too early in maritime climates and doesn't set a crop. It's also wonderful for providing forage for early pollinators.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can I have two Bungo Flowering Apricot tress for cross pollination? if not, what is the best choice? And how far or how close they have to be planted?

As grafted clones they will not pollinate each other. You will need another variety for cross pollination.

  • What does semi-dwarf mean? How tall would the tree get? Tha k you

As it states in the plant description this tree will each roughly 15' at maturity.

Great condition on arrival

This Bungo flowering apricot took some time to arrive the east coast from west. It is in great condition on arrival. Raintree Nursery packed the plant well. I plan to transplant it from 1-gallon pot to 3-gallon pot in the first year and plant it in ground the next year after grows higher.

Good size tree with great shipping

The Bungo flowering apricot tree was nicely wrapped, and there was no damage to the tree. There hasn't been any new growth yet, but the tree seems to be in good condition.

Bungo Ume

I received the two Japanese apricot trees (one being the Bungo Prunus mume) and planted them. They appeared to be in good condition, but I assume it will be months before I see significant growth. Doing my best to be patient.
