Prunus persica 'Avalon Pride'

Discovered as a chance seedling in 1981 in Issaquah, WA by Margaret Proud. Avalon Pride is a highly-flavored, yellow-fleshed, semi-freestone peach great for preserves, pies, poaching or eating fresh. This late-blooming yet early-ripening variety has some resistance to peach leaf curl. As a patented variety, royalties of 75 cents per tree go to support fruit research at the WSU Mt. Vernon location.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • We grow organic. Does this tree need to be sprayed?

That depends entirely on your area and what you are spraying for. Avalon Pride has a mid-range disease resistance to leaf curl.

  • At 14’ high, how can this be a dwarf? Can it be maintained at 8 > 9’ and still be productive?

Both Lovell and Citation, the two rootstocks we carry these trees on, are very similar in size. You can prune it to whatever height you want if you maintain it annually.

Great Tree

Tree arrived in good condition with a great root system. The tree has great disease resistance and I haven't had any disease problems with it. The first year it didn't grow too much but this year it's gotten huge. I saw a couple of flowers this spring as well but no fruits. We should get fruit next year though.

Arrived in great condition and definately alive.

I planted it and It is already starting to grow some leaves. Very healthy plant. Easy to see it is alive and no need for a scratch test.

Avalon Pride

I have been growing an Avalon Pride peach tree for 15 years The Avalon Pride is the most leaf curl and disease free peach I have grown and the peaches are very good tasting but I have been disappointed that this tree is not more productive.

does not grow in zone 9

I purchased this tree because of the zone indicated. It was categorized for zone 9, which is where I grew fruit trees before. However this specie does not like the heat here and died. I have all my trees on a drip system, so water supply was not the issue. The experts are Raintree, but I only received excuses after excuses.
