Pyrus communis 'Conference'

Named for the British National Pear Conference in 1885, Europeans still gather to praise it. This leading French commercial variety is very juicy, sweet and buttery. It is the most productive pear, hanging from the branch in huge banana-like clusters.

Attractive, large yellow fruit matures in October with Highland. It keeps until January or longer. Texture is firm and excellent for canning.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I'm wishing to plant one Conference, one Orcas, and one Ubileen European pear... will these pollinate each other sufficiently?

    Absolutely!

  • What is the spacing requirement for these? How far apart should they be planted from other pear trees?

14-16 foot centers is common. You can go as close as 12 as pears tend to not be as wide as they are tall.

  • Will it pollinate clapps pear?

    Yes it will!

  • Would this work as a pollinator for Seckel?

    Yes it should work fine.

  • This tree is showing in the size filter of Dwarf: 4'-5'. However, the description Grow Height: 15' (Semi Dwarf). Can you please clarify?

The tree, when shipped, is 4'-5' tall. The tree, when mature, will grow to approximately 15' tall.

Impressed that Conference pear tree, bare root, is showing bud break 7 days after planting.

Pear-a-normal experience

Conference pear is so outstanding that I prepared a great review, including uploaded photos and an extensive review of our experiences since we bought our pear from Raintree Nursery back in 2011. Still have the receipt. Unfortunately, my efforts and time were wasted because the app. accepted all my data but it went nowhere because the webmaster apparently simply abandoned the program, but left it online. Sad.

All you get now is NO PICS, and basic commentary. Anybody seriously interested in European pears, at least on the West Coast should try Conference Pear. Beautiful, vigorous growth on OHXF 333 with heavy bloom at 8 years. Strongly self-fertile. Heavy annual production ripening mid to late October on the Redwood coast, Eureka, CA.. Top-ranked in quality with the best like Comice. Sliced fruit dries into pear candy. If you only plant one pear, this is it.
