Prunus salicina x 'Early Golden'

When we say "Early", we're not kidding! This vigorous, upright, open grower produces heaps of medium-sized, round yellow plums that have a delicate red blush and meaty, freestone, golden flesh. It ripens a heavy crop of satisfying fruit in July, along with the super-early Kuban Komet, and two weeks before Shiro.

Make certain to thin the fruit each year - overproduction may cause biennial bearing. Discovered as a chance seedling in Fonthill, Canada; it remains one of our most hardy Asian plums. It needs a pollinizer, and any other Asian variety will work well.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What is the bloom time for this tree? We get late frosts some years and want to select trees that will do well in our area.

Early Golden, as with all Asian plums, blooms early enough that late frosts may be a concern in some regions.

  • how large do you ship these trees? I Had ordered trees in the past (asian pears) and they showed up as tiny stems. I am looking for a tree that is already of decent size at least 4 ft in height or better.

They should be 4'-5' from tip to tip at shipping.

  • What is this plums zone hardiness?

As listed in the description this plum is hardy to zone 5.

Early Golden in Maine

Flavorful with a dry texture. The tree has an alternate bearing habit, and is very vigorous. This variety is not fully hardy in our colder part of zone 5, but the fruit are worth the risk.
