Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca 'Mirabelle de Metz'

A member of the Royal Court of Plums! Soft, sweet, exquisitely-flavored Mirabelle de Metz plums are small-stoned, freestone, and yellow dotted with carmine red. This very old, French cultivar of the wonderful Mirabelle ripens in late summer and produces heavily each year. The intensely sweet and fragrant fruits require very little added sugar to create luscious preserves and baked goods.

While Mirabelles tend to be shy pollen producers, this variety will need a pollinizing partner. Upright and blazingly productive most years.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Will this plum do well with an Italian Plum as a pollinator?

No, they do not bloom at the same time. Gage plums are the best for Mirabelle plums.

  • What pollinizing partner do you recommend getting with the Mirabelle de Metz?

Another European plum, like a Gage plum. Coe's Golden Drop, Monsieur Hatif, and Victoria are also suggested.

Mirabelle de Metz

Received a bare root Mirabelle de Metz tree in excellent condition. Potted the tree in a 10 gallon pot and the tree immediately began to leaf out. Plan to transplant to a permanent location in the next few weeks. Very pleased with my new European plum tree!

New Mirabelles at New Hampshire

Metz and Nancy arrived in good condition, well-packaged. Good root and branch structure, completely dormant. Gave them nice wide holes, sunny spot, backfilled adding plenty of humus. I'm looking forward to seeing them grow, here in Seacoast NH, Zone 6a.

Very strong tree with good platform

The M. de Metz seems less common in U.S. than other Mirabelles and is recommended for cooking, much like a prune type. Followed Raintree advice and planted the tree near other plums for pollination.
