Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca 'Reine de Mirabelle'

While not considered a "true" Mirabelles (it is claimed to be a cross between the original green Gage plum Reine Claude and a French Mirabelle) this larger, golden plum exceeds other Mirabelles in size and ripens a bit later, extending the coveted Mirabelle season. It is prized in Europe as a culinary plum, for fresh eating and for luscious preserves.

Prefers full sun and good drainage; easier to grow than most Gage plums.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I have an elephant heart plum. Will This cross pinste with it?

Unlikely. Elephant Heart is a Japanese variety of plum and blooms too early for mirabelle plums. Mirabelle plums can be a challenge as they bloom early for a European plum, but not as early as an Asian plum. We suggest Gage plums, or other Mirabelle plums planted close by, to ensure good pollination.

  • Our family is from Metz, so in forming an edible landscape that verity of Mirabelle would be traditional.Which pollinator would be most likely to bloom in harmony with Mirabelle de Metz? Also in zone 8a, full Sun, sandy soil, hot humid summers, low chill hours. thanks

Any of the early blooming european plums will do fine, but specifically Gage plums are the best pollinators for Mirabelle plums.

  • how many chill hours
