Prunus salicina x 'Shiro'

The Shiro plum is a large, round, yellow plum with an mild, sweet flavor and sunshine yellow, translucent flesh. The Luther Burbank variety, introduced in 1899, is very prolific, the fruit ripens early, and it's ridiculously juicy. You might want to get out a bib for this one!

The fast-producing tree reliably cranks out loads of clingstone fruit every mid-summer, and builds a rather short, wide, layered form. Requires 400-500 chill hours to set fruit, and doubles its fruit production each year for the first 5 years!

Arrived dead

Thick tree arrived with minimum root that some where broken. no sign of life, all brown under the skin. I hope it was alive, I liked the matureness though!

Poor condition

Tree had multiple broken branches on one side of the tree. The roots did not have any shredded newspaper to keep damp, just in a plastic bag. I was answered that this is just cosmetic.

Oh now this fruit tree will be my "star"

Oh now this fruit tree will be my "star". I have waited to buy a shiro plum for years as I grew up on a farm and my relatives had a tree and I so enjoyed eating this fruit right off the branch. I was so happy when Raintree Nursery offered this product on their website! I couldn't have ordered it any faster! The tree arrived in perfect condition and very healthy. lt certainly was packaged with tender loving care. i am sooooooooo looking forward to when the shiro produces fruit. Thank you so much Raintree Nursery!!

Caution DO NOT BUY

I purchased this year and tree did not grow. I didnt receive my order until June and asked about a replacement in August and was told I had to let them know by 8/1. It wasnt even 2 months after my order was received.

Customer Service is horrible, Stark Bros offers a 1-year warranty and I have had better luck with them

Waited a long time for my trees. The peach arrrived Nice tree. Has not leafed yet but buds are swelling. The shiro plum arrive dead and is still dead. No bud swell no leaf. Trees arrived, shipped with no moisture around the roots. Very poor shipping technique. May be ok for a day or 2 ship, but not for across country shipping

Shiro Asian Plum

I bought my Shiro dwarf tree from Raintree in May 2022. My Shiro has been looking great in the past 2 years but no fruit in 2023 yet. This April (2024) it started flowering! My family is hoping to taste its plums the first time this summer.

The tree looks good pre- trimmed. Planted and waiting for leaves to start

Shiro Plum

The tree arrived in a protective box, wrapped in plastic with shredded paper around the roots.
I was very pleased with the package. And information on planting. Along with their newsletter about taking care of the tree. I will be shopping with them again.

Way Too Early

I received this tree via UPS last week, and I planted it the next day. Today, I received an email asking me to write a review.

It seems to me that it's way too early for me to give a meaningful review. The tree arrived alive and in good shape, but that is all I can say.

This is the replacement for the Shiro plum tree I bought last year. That one also arrived in good condition, but it died within 4 months after planting. That happens sometimes. No big deal. The other 18 trees I bought from Raintree Nursery last year are all doing very well.

It seems to me that one can only write a meaningful review of a tree at least 3 years after planting it.

Very impressed with this tree.
Due to the temperatures in the 20’s at night, I’m keeping the tree in the garage & keeping the roots moist til next week when temps rise next week.

One of my favorite trees; pagoda shaped upper branches

Planted in 2018, had two incredibly delicious plums in 2019, and have identified one plum this year. I may have sheared off some blossoms as I pruned the tree for size early this spring. Have I mentioned how delightful those two plums were? I worried that my Shiro and Beauty were not pollinating each other sufficiently, so I added an Obilnaja this year, and my Nadia cherry/plum may contribute, though if there are not more fruits by 2021 I may have to take other measures, as in more trees to pollinate or planting lavender to attract more bees.
